The Importance of Stretch and Recovery

If you've had a mega busy week, your body is feeling tired and you don't feel like heading to the gym, then maybe you need to rest, recover and stretch! Stretching is so good for your body, mind and it can boost your mood too. At this time of year, when it's grey and cold outside, the temptation to hibernate and become a sloth is very real! However, you'll feel so much better if you ditch the duvet and grab your leggings.

You could start off by simply standing up, reaching up and breathing deeply. I often stretch for five minutes when I first get out of bed in the morning. My body feels so much more awake afterwards. It really doesn't matter how flexible you at first, stretching regularly will help to increase your flexibility as well as improving your posture. Bonus!

Also, many people don't know this, but stretching is a great hangover cure. (One to remember if you're celebrating the end of dry January!) After a night of partying, you might not feel like taking on an hour of yoga and headstands but simply do some stretches for fifteen minutes to help get some oxygen flowing around the body.

We put our bodies through a lot of stress each day, carrying heavy bags, sitting at a desk, standing at the station, not to mention doing all of that in heels! Be kind to your body at the end of the day. Give your legs some TLC, breathe, stretch and recharge!
