This week saw New York in the spotlight as the bi-annual Fashion Week kicked off in the Big Apple. Want to know what went down over the past seven days? We have you covered with who came, who walked and the key trend to take away.
TOMMY HILFIGER'S FUNFAIR
From fairground rides to fried food, Tommy Hilfiger’s latest showcase location was a veritable nostalgia trip. While the likes of Taylor Swift sat front row, twinkling lights lined the runway before model Gigi Hadid debuted her instantly shoppable collaboration with the brand.
MEET THE NEW IT GIRL: TEYANA TAYLOR
Singer, actress and native New Yorker Teyana Taylor shot into the spotlight following her appearance on Kanye West’s Fade music video. Spotted at the Hood by Air and Yeezy Season 4 events, she stole the show. With an upcoming workout DVD and some killer dancer moves up her sleeve, it’s fair to say this isn’t the last you’ve seen of Taylor.
THE CHAOS OF YEEZY
Day one saw the fashion crowd move to Roosevelt Island for Yeezy Season 4’s presentation, where models stood on the grass while others walked a white runway. The show was reviewed as a chaotic, with many models opting to sit down due to the heat.
DOGS RULED THE FROWS
We can’t help but wonder whether the pooches that sat front row had their own tickets… From Parker Posey to Kelly Osbourne, a number of furry friends were seen around New York Fashion Week.
YOUNG THUG SHOWED HE'S A PERFECTIONIST
Attending the VFILES show last week, their mentor Young Thug proved his perfectionist qualities by stepping out onto the runway to adjust a model’s clothing mid-show.
WHOOPI GOLDBERG WALKED FOR OPENING CEREMONY
Whoopi Goldenberg was pretty much everywhere this New York Fashion Week, from the J Crew presentation to the Hood by Air show. Most notably however, the star walked for a free-form Pageant of the People during the Opening Ceremony show.
PRESENTATIONS REPLACED CATWALKS
Although the runways will always reign supreme, a number of designers surprised their attendees with presentations. The intimate affairs allowed for a closer look at the new collections, and an angle of the presentation as a new art form.
DESIGNERS TOOK THEIR WORK AL FRESCO
Fresh air, for a fresh new collection it seems, as many designers opted to take their spring 2017 pieces outdoors. Rebecca Minkoff closed off Greene Street in SoHo, making the cobblestones the catwalk.
AND THE ONE KEY TREND? NEW AGE SPORTSWEAR
Although it was trends galore on the catwalks, one stood out for spring 2017: new age sportwear. From off-shoulder gym separates to plunge neck hoodies, elevated activewear is here to stay.
