Whether you go for skinny, slim or straight fits, finding the footwear for your denim is crucial. This guide will run through every option from formal and dress shoes to casual pieces and trainers. By running through different shades, situations and fittings, we've covered every common query surrounding this common problem in a man's wardrobe. So, no matter where you’re heading, this guide will show you what shoes to rock with your jeans.
SHOES TO WEAR WITH SKINNY JEANS
If you’re the kind of guy that prefers the tighter fits in your jeans, then you’ll be pleased to know you’ve got plenty of options in the footwear department. For the summertime feel, try pairing your skinny jeans with loafers or drivers. They also match well with canvas trainers, tennis shoes and classic runners for those warmer days.
In the winter months, if you’re after smarter options, Derbies, brogues, desert boots and Chelsea boots will all do the trick. If you want to keep a slim silhouette from thigh to foot then we’d suggest derbies or Chelsea boots. If you’re not afraid of a chunkier finish then brogues, hi top trainers and desert boots are the styles you need to head to.

SHOES TO WEAR WITH STRAIGHT LEG JEANS
Straight leg jeans aren’t as well suited to the more slim line styled shoes, namely loafers and drivers. Instead you should stick to desert boots, brogues and derbies. We wouldn’t suggest Chelsea boots with straight fits as they’re better suited to more streamlined silhouettes.
Another option, for the more style-conscious of men, is the monk strap. This is the most fashionable option and a brown pair will look great with some indigo straight leg jeans. In the trainer department, you’ll be better off going for thicker silhouettes or you’ll risk the jeans looking oversized. We'd stay away from plimsolls and tennis shoes and go for hi-tops, classic runners and other thicker styles.
SHOES TO WEAR WITH BLACK JEANS
When you’re teaming your footwear with your jeans, it’s important to think about colour matching where possible. The same rules apply here as with tailoring and shoe matching. To play it safe, stick to black shoes as this is the classic pairing for black legwear.
Having said that, tan or brown desert boots or brogues will go well with black jeans as well. When you’re dealing with casual clothing, the sartorial rules are a little more relaxed. You can also get away with wearing burgundy shoes. For this colourway we’d stick with Derby shoes, brogues and loafers and let them be the statement in your outfit.

SHOES TO WEAR WITH DARK BLUE JEANS
Dark blue jeans have no restrictions when it comes to colour matching. Just choose your favourite style of shoe, keeping in mind the fit you’ve gone for, then just pick between black, brown, burgundy or grey and you’re sorted! Dark blue jeans are also perfect for teaming with smarter pieces up top like blazers and oxford shirts, so are great for smart-casual outfits.

TENNIS SHOES TO WEAR WITH JEANS
Tennis shoes have been enjoying a huge surge in popularity over the past few years and they’re great for pairing with a good bit of denim. If you are going for this look, we’d stay away from straight leg jeans as they’ll swamp the tennis shoes. Instead, go for skinny, slim or tapered fits in any colour or wash you prefer.
White tennis shoes are definitely the best option for the summer months but a riskier choice when the rain clouds appear. We'd steer clear if you're the type that tends to get their trainers in a bit of a mess quicker than average.
DRESS SHOES TO WEAR WITH JEANS
If you’re looking for some dress shoes to pair with your denim then you’ll be pleased to know you’ve got plenty of options (most have already been set out above). The key dress shoe styles to check out are brogues, oxfords, derbies, loafers, monk straps, dress boots and Chelsea boots. Once you’ve decided what style is the one for you, you just need to make sure you’re colour matching properly and thinking aboout when you’ll be wearing them.
Loafers are much better suited for the summer months in general whereas the other styles are far better for the colder and rainier months. Also bear in mind the context you’re wearing them and what fitting you’ve gone for in your jeans.
